MEL SYSTEM AND ADAPTIVE PROGRAMMING

Learning is in our core structure and is essential for our gears to function. We produce and use evidence to improve our performance and impact during the implementation of our interventions. We share what we learn, so that the entire community involved in socio-economic development, such as practitioners, funders, governments and researchers, can make use of it. By sharing our learnings, we make a commitment to contribute to the development of new programmes, policies and interventions for women's economic empowerment.

Adaptive
Programming

Test, learn and adapt, three words that characterize how we work. We think of new projects as prototypes to be tested. We implement the first prototype with the support of the MEL system. With the data collected, we reflect on the implementation, the results achieved and the target group with which we work.

Based on this reflection, we define what needs to be adapted to better serve our participants. We test and reflect again. The adaptations of the second prototype are generally refinements. We finalize the adaptive process with a third test considered to be the final product.

This duo of operations and monitoring ensures the adaptive programming that allows our interventions to be constantly improved and the impacts we achieve to be more significant.

What does
success mean to
the project?

This question guides the Theory of Change (ToC).

What
information
is needed?

This question guides the identification of indicators for monitoring and evaluation of the project.

What to
do with this

This question guides the project's reflection and adaptation workshops.

Learning

Our MEL system has 5 steps:

01.
Develop a Theory of Change that ensures coherence between the target group, planned activities and expected impact. This phase is concomitant to the design of the interventions.
02.
Create monitoring indicators that allow the Theory of Change to be followed up and results to be measured.
03.
Monitor and evaluate the interventions quantitatively and qualitatively.

04.
For each intervention, implement reflections that are based on evidence in order to identify the positive elements, the elements to be adjusted and suggestions for adaptation to improve the operations.
05.
From the results of the interventions, systematize evidence to underpin advocacy and work on systemic change to contribute to the advancement of women’s economic empowerment studies and practices.
